Maersk Oil

Mærsk Olie og Gas AS (Maersk Oil) and its subsidiary companies are owned by A.P. Møller – Mærsk A/S, and are part of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group.

Maersk Oil was established in 1962, when Mr A.P. Møller was awarded the concession for oil and gas exploration and production in Denmark.

Today, Maersk Oil is a midsize international oil and gas company operating an oil production of about 650,000 barrels per day and a sales gas production of up to some 1,000 million cubic feet per day. The company has a net equity production exceeding 550,000 barrels of oil equivalents per day from fields in the Danish and British part of the North Sea, offshore Qatar, in Algeria and in Kazakhstan. Activities are ongoing in, among others, the Danish, British and Norwegian sectors of the North Sea, Qatar, Algeria, Angola, Kazakhstan, Oman, Brazil and the US Gulf of Mexico.

Maersk Oil has been amongst the leaders in developing solutions tailored to meet the North Sea challenges. The main part of Maersk Oil's operated production is from low permeability, high porosity chalk and limestone reservoirs, which prior to the 1980's were deemed unattractive due to low production rates.

Maersk in the UK
Maersk's UK office is located in Altens, Aberdeen. Maersk look after three assets in the UK sector:

Gryphon Alpha: This asset processes oil and gas from the Gryphon, South Gryphon, Tulloch and Maclure fields. Oil is exported by tanker and gas is exported to the ExxonMobil operated Beryl Alpha platform where it joins the SAGE pipeline for transport to shore.

Janice A: The Janice facilities process oil and gas from the Janice, James and Affleck fields. Oil is exported via the Norpipe pipeline to Teeside. Gas from Janice and James is exported via Clyde into Fulmar. However, from mid 2009 Affleck is expected to produce via Janice.

Global Producer III: The GPIII FPSO processes oil and gas from the Dumbarton field. Oil is exported by tanker, with gas export via pipeline to a subsea tie-in at MacCulloch and then to Piper Bravo for processing. From Bravo, gas is exported to Frigg and NGL to Flotta.
