Babcock Appointed EDF Energy Networks Alliance Partner

Babcock PLCBabcock International Group PLC ("Babcock") announces that its Networks business has been appointed as alliance partner to EDF Energy Networks for the delivery of overhead transmission line works in the East of England, the South East and London.

Babcock Networks has widespread experience in alliance partnering, and through Eve, its power transmission division, it has recognised expertise in the field of overhead transmission line design and engineering.

The contract, worth approximately £50m over a five-year period, will cover the upgrade and development of EDF Energy Networks' transmission infrastructure. Babcock Networks with its partner EDF Energy Networks will commence activities on this contract in the first quarter of the 2007/08 financial year.

Peter Rogers, Chief Executive of Babcock, commented:

"This is a significant win for Babcock and recognises our expertise in the long term network support we provide to every infrastructure owner in the transmission industry. The award presents an excellent opportunity for long term planning which will give our business real efficiency benefits. We look forward to working in partnership with EDF over the coming years."

The company is also a key player in national infrastructure projects, including the electrical upgrading of the London Underground, management of private electricity networks serving four London airports and the Channel Tunnel Rail Link, the country's first new railway in 100 years. EDF employ nearly 13,000 people at locations across the UK. EDF Energy is a core part of EDF Group, one of the world's largest power companies.
