Kazakhstan PM Signs BTC Pipeline Deal
Daniyal Akhmetov, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, is to sign a deal in June that will see its oil output flow into the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline. He told a Cabinet meeting that an agreement on joining the BTC was currently being examined by lawyers and was expected to be signed by the Kazakh and Azerbaijani Presidents at a summit next month.
In March, US Secretary of Energy Samuel Bodman urged Kazakhstan to speed up talks on joining the BTC. Earlier, Akhmetov said Kazakhstan could ship up to 30 million tonnes of oil per year through the pipeline. Kazakhstan currently produces about 1.3 million barrels per day. This is expected to be ramped up to 3 million bpd by 2015.
