CB&I To Work On Two Large U.K. Offshore Wind Farm Developments

CB&ICB&I is to work with the same client who recently awarded fabrication of 150 tubular steel support towers for wind turbines to be installed in wind farms in the western United States. The unidentified client is said to be one of the world's largest suppliers of wind turbines.

The projects, two large offshore wind farm developments in the U.K., are due for award in early 2005 and are part of the initial Round 1 licenses granted by the U.K. authorities. If successful, the contractor will supply more than 600 MW of wind energy generation at each site. For these projects, CB&I would draw upon its offshore experience to supply and install everything but the wind turbines, including the turbine foundation support, offshore transformer platforms, offshore inter-array cabling, offshore and onshore export cables and connection into the electric grid.

CB&I's recent U.S. contract award consisted of the fabrication of 150 tubular steel support towers to support 1.5-megawatt wind turbines, which are the largest wind turbines assembled in the United States and the most widely sold and tested megawatt class wind turbines in the world.
