AMEC to provide engineering services for Pogo Gold Mine
AMEC has been awarded a contract to proceed with engineering, procurement and construction management services for the USD280m Pogo Gold Mine Project in Alaska for clients Teck Cominco and Sumitomo.
This next phase of the project follows AMEC's recent completion of the final feasibility study for the project.
The Pogo Gold Mine Project, located approximately 90 miles southeast of Fairbanks, Alaska, will be developed as a 2,500-ton-per-day underground gold mine and mill, producing 350,000 to 500,000 ounces of gold per year over its 10-year life. Annual production during the first three full years of commercial production is expected to be approximately 460,000 ounces of gold. It is believed that there is substantial potential for additions to reserves through near-mine exploration. The facility is scheduled for initial production in March 2006.
