Wood Group Wins Power Plant Contract in Columbia
Wood Group Power Operations Inc, part of the Gas Turbine Services Division of John Wood Group has been awarded a three-year power plant operations and maintenance contract with Drummond Ltd in Colombia, the company's first long-term services contract in South America.
Under the contract, worth $3.5m over its life, WGPO is responsible for providing mobilization and start-up assistance to Drummond, as well as on-going plant O&M services for the 65MW power plant located at the Pribbenow Coal Mine in northern Colombia.
The O&M contract follows Drummond's award earlier in 2004 to Wood Group Power Solutions Inc for the installation of power plant equipment, also at the Pribbenow Coal Mine.
The Drummond O&M contract is WGPO's second major success this year, following the award, in April 2004, of two contracts in New York State with a leading integrated utility company where WGPO took over the responsibility for the provision of long-term O&M services for two cogeneration plants operating General Electric Frame 6B gas turbines.
Drummond Ltd is part of Drummond Company, Inc., based in Alabama, USA, which is principally in the business of mining, purchasing, processing and selling of coal and coal derivatives. Based upon production, Drummond ranks in the top 25 percent of US owned coal companies. The Company's operations are located in Alabama and Colombia, serving customers in both the US and Europe.
