Technip Awarded Contract for Polypropylene Plant

Technip LogoTechnip has been awarded a contract by Sasol worth €47 million for a large capacity polypropylene plant to be built at Secunda, 150 km south east of Johannesburg in the Republic of South Africa. The plant is based on BP's Innovene gas-phase technology.

Engineering, procurement services, construction supervision and overall project management will be carried out by the Technip's engineering centre in Lyon, France, with support from Technip South Africa. The delivery of the plant 'ready for commissioning' is scheduled to be completed in December 2005.

Prior to this award, and in close cooperation with BP, Technip first developed the process design package of this plant and also performed the front end engineering design for the project.

Technip has designed and built 8% of the world's overall capacity of polypropylene facilities. It is also a major step for Technip in the South African market and their growing business relationship with Sasol, one of the main shareholders of the companies for which Technip is currently executing the gas-to-liquids project in Qatar and the 9th Petrochemical Complex at Asaluyeh in Iran.
