Fluor Win Work on Australia's Newest Alumina Refinery

Fluor LogoFluor has been contracted to provide asset management support services to Australia's newest alumina refinery with its joint venture partner Monadelphous Engineering Pty. Ltd. The contract value was not disclosed.

The Fluor Monadelphous Services team will provide integrated maintenance and shutdown services for the Comalco Alumina Refinery (CAR) owned by Comalco Alumina Ltd. The duration of the contract is five years.

The refinery, located on a greenfield site in Gladstone, Central Queensland, is planned for development in three stages and will operate using the Bayer process, the most economic means of producing alumina from bauxite. The plant initially will produce nearly one and one-half million tons of alumina annually, which will be shipped to other sites for further processing into aluminum metal.
