Shaw Expands UK Operations to Support European Power Market

Shaw Group The Shaw Group has expanded its operations in the United Kingdom by establishing a Power Group office in Milton Keynes. This expansion will support the Power Group's European clients and their interest in providing new baseload electricity-generating capacity.

Shaw's Power Group joins the company's Energy & Chemicals Group in Milton Keynes, where Shaw has served its European, Middle-Eastern and Asian clients since 1983. The expansion of the Milton Keynes office follows the recent growth of the Power Group's office in Derby, England, where its Fossil Division also manages local pipe-fabrication facilities.

The Power Group's current work in the U.K. power market includes developing two new carbon capture- and storage-ready ultra-supercritical coal-fired power stations being considered by RWE npower for Tilbury in Essex and Blyth in Northumberland. In 2008, Shaw was named an alliance partner on the project and was awarded a development services contract to provide stage-one support for the proposed power generation program of up to 4,000 megawatts of power.

The expansion of the Power Group's operations also reflects Shaw's commitment to moving the nuclear renaissance and the advanced AP1000 reactor technology to European customers. Shaw and its AP1000(TM) consortium partner Westinghouse Electric Company currently are working on four nuclear units at two sites in China and have engineering, procurement and construction contracts for six new nuclear units in the United States.
