ACKtiv Nuclear for Sellafield Safety
BNFL and the ACKtiv Nuclear Joint Venture - Atkins, Carillion, and Aker Kvaerner - have signed an alliance agreement to deliver the Legacy Ponds Project at Sellafield.
The alliance agreement consists of BNFL and joint venture personnel, including fully integrated programme management, design, installation, construction delivery, and facility management. The work will be done predominantly in West Cumbria (Whitehaven, Westlakes, Sellafield) and Stockton.
Initially, the alliance project team will focus on risk reduction work and refurbishment associated with the B30 complex at the plant. This will include assessment of existing facilities and the design, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning of both new build and refurbishment projects.
The alliance will be working under commercially innovative arrangements whereby risk and reward are shared between ACKtiv Nuclear and BNFL. ACKtiv carry a lifetime liability chain from design, through to construction, commissioning and handover to the operating unit.
This project represents a major part of BNFL's programme of dealing with the historic liabilities on the Sellafield nuclear facility site.
