'Duty Holder' Role for Aker Kvaerner in North Sea

Amerada Hess have appointed Aker Kvaerner Operations (AKO) to take over management responsibility for the day-to-day operations of their AH001 installation for rhe first time. The contract, expected to begin later this month, will run until the end of the platform's extended working life and is now expected to remain in operation until at least 2007.

There are no immediate job implications for the 30 Amerada Hess staff and contractors usually on the AH001 at a time. AKO said it would seek to retain the key skills and knowledge of platform personnel currently employed by Amerada Hess. However, it is believed an undisclosed number of offshore posts could be in question in future cost reductions.

AKO has been providing complete onshore support for the platform since October 2003. However, the new deal will entail much greater involvement.

The AH001 is on the Amerada Hess-operated Ivanhoe/ Rob Roy fields, 110 miles north-east of Aberdeen. The installation also processes and exports oil from the Renee and Rubie fields operated by Talisman.

Amerada Hess and partner Talisman will retain ownership of Ivanhoe and Rob Roy in addition to the platform itself.
