Norway-UK Gas Agreement Secures UK Jobs
Gaz de France has just concluded the purchase of the UK based, Shotton combined heat and power plant from its administrative receivers. The 215 MW, natural gas fired power plant, located near Chester, in the north-east of Wales, was commissioned in August 2002.
The purchase will enable Gaz de France to strengthen its position in the UK energy trading market, where its subsidiary, Gaz de France Energy Supply Solutions, already holds a significant position with a market share of around 10% of natural gas sales to the industrial and commercial sectors.
The November 2002 acquisition of RWE Trading Direct Ltd, a company specialising in the supply of electricity to major energy users in the industrial and commercial market had already enabled Gaz de France ESS to provide its customers with a 'dual-fuel, natural gas and electricity offer.
The new purchase comes fully within the scope of Gaz de France's European development along the entire gas chain. In the United Kingdom, Gaz de France is involved in both exploration and production as well as in services and energy trading through Gaselys, a Gaz de France - Société Générale, joint-venture subsidiary.
