Amerada Hess to Shed Jobs
Amerada Hess have announced plans to cut up to 170 jobs; half in Aberdeen and half in London and transfer 160 other jobs in Aberdeen to EnCana
The job cuts result from an exchange of assets with the Canadian company EnCana. EnCana is to take on about 160 Amerada Hess staff - 100 in Aberdeen and 60 offshore. It is expected that EnCana will occupy part of the Amerada Hess office Aberdeen. The Canadian firm currently has a small office in the city with 12 workers.
Amerada Hess will still have 80 to 100 people working in Aberdeen and offshore. The 184 staff in London will be reduced to less than 100.
EnCana is to increase its stakes in the Scott and Telford fields, with the addition of 14 per cent interests from Amerada Hess. The Canadian company will also become operator of the fields. The deal also includes EnCana transferring to Amerada Hess its 22.5 per cent interest in the Gulf of Mexico Llano field.
EnCana net production in Britain will almost double to 20,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day after the deal is completed.
Amerada Hess continues to have stakes in over 35 UK North Sea fields. It will remain the operator of eight fields.
