AMEC Signs up for Serbian Oil Company Work

AMEC, based in Crawley, has taken an important first step towards becoming a leading energy service provider in the Balkan region with the winning of a multi-million pound Gasoline Improvement Project in northern Serbia.

The deal is part of a three-year framework agreement with NIS, the Serbian state-owned oil company, and will provide project management and engineering services at the Novi Sad Refinery. Work will begin immediately and continue for approximately two years as part of the refinery's Clean Fuels Initiative, which will enable it to produce European-quality gasoline and diesel in economic quantities.

AMEC has been involved in the project from its conception, carrying out project definition and feasibility studies. An Integrated Project Management Team (IPMT), staffed by personnel from AMEC, Novi Sad refinery and other divisions of NIS, has been formed to manage the implementation of projects at the refinery, and to train NIS personnel in project management techniques to assist in the country's future development.

The IPMT will select the best licenced technology for a new isomerisation plant, oversee the engineering works and manage the procurement, construction and commissioning phases. It will also manage and co-ordinate the other associated projects in the Gasoline Improvement Project.
