Shell to cut 350 North Sea Jobs<
Shell Expro have announced 350 jobs are to be cut from their North Sea operations. It is thought that around 210 will be contractors. The cuts will be made from a current total of 1,600 employees and contractors.
Unions fear that vital maintenance work will be cut on North Sea installations. Shell said that only a small proportion of the job losses would be maintenance-related. It is believed that the Health and Safety Executive would be working with Shell to ensure that the proposals did not threaten safety.
Shell is increasingly focusing its interests in new areas such as offshore West Africa and the Caspian Sea, rather than the North Sea. The reductions will be made in the northern and central fields of the UK Sector of the North Sea.
