Shell Aawrds Platform contract to SLP
SLP Engineering Ltd. of Lowestoft has been awarded a £40 million contract for platform construction from Shell U.K. Exploration and Production. The award is for two platforms. One, a larger 'hub' platform, is to be located over the Carrack field from which three wells will be drilled in 2003/2004 with the capacity for additional wells should they be required. The second smaller platform will be installed adjacent to Shell's Sole Pit Clipper platform complex to act as a reception facility for the Carrack gas production.
The Carrack Wellhead platform topsides weigh 2200 tonnes and the associated substructure weighs 1250 tonnes. The smaller Clipper riser and reception platform comprises an 1000 tonne topside and 800 tonne jacket. In addition SLP will construct 2 bridges both 30m long and weighing 60 tonnes and 40 tonnes.
The order by Shell demonstrates a continued commitment to the North Sea, in particular for more marginal fields in the UK Continental Shelf in line with Government and industry efforts to reduce fallow acreage.
