AMEC wins BP Grangemouth Work

AMEC has extended its activities at BP Chemicals' Grangemouth petrochemical complex in Scotland with the award of a contract to carry out scheduled plant maintenance overhauls on three major chemical production units during 2003.

The contract is valued at £4 million.

The work will be carried out on the Innovene-2 and Innovene-4 polyethylene plants, and the PP3 polypropylene plant. Innovene 2 produces high-density polyethylene, which is used to produce, bottles, containers, cable ducting and many other products. It has a capacity of over 185,000 tonnes per year. Innovene 4 has a capacity of 300,000 tonnes per year of low-density polyethylene, which is one of the raw materials from which polyethylene film is manufactured. This has many applications, including food, industrial and agricultural packaging. The PP3 plant has a capacity of 250,000 tonnes per year of polypropylene, a polymer used in food packaging, car bumpers and garden furniture.

AMEC has been a supplier of engineering services at the Grangemouth complex for more than 35 years and, last year, completed the design and engineering of a new Ethanol manufacturing plant as part of a major investment by BP Amoco on the site.
