AMEC Awarded Gas Contract by Transco

AMEC has been awarded a contract to design and deliver a new gas compression station at Bathgate, near Edinburgh, for Transco National Transmission and Trading, as part of an on-going enhancement of the UK's gas transmission system.

The contract value was announced as £48 million.

The work will include engineering, installation of major plant and commissioning of the station. Operation and maintenance is also included in the contract and detailed negotiations between Transco and AMEC are underway to define requirements.

AMEC carried out a conceptual study to arrive at the best technical, environmental and value-for-money solution based on whole-life costing of the station over a 20-year operating period.

Environmental and community issues are important considerations for AMEC and Transco and any emissions - including noise - will be strictly controlled in line with local and national regulations.

To ensure 100% availability of gas supply to customers at all times, the station has full duplicate facilities capable of providing the total required gas throughput if required.
