AMEC to Support DuPontSA
AMEC has been awarded a contract by DuPontSA to provide maintenance and support services at the company's polyester manufacturing site in Pontypool, South Wales, which employs 150 people.
Officials did not disclose the contract value.
The contract runs from July 2002, initially for five years subject to annual performance reviews. The contract value has not been disclosed.
AMEC will carry out the planned and reactive maintenance of electrical and instrumentation equipment, heating and ventilation plant, air, steam and power systems, non-specialist production equipment and several other facilities. The company will have substantial involvement in planning and scheduling these activities and will be responsible for engineering services, facility projects and plant maintenance shutdowns. In addition AMEC will also take over the responsibility for the selection and management of the suppliers carrying out building maintenance, security, cleaning and catering.
The work at Pontypool extends AMEC's long-standing relationship with DuPontSA, Europe's largest manufacturer of polyester, for whom it has provided support services at its Wilton plants.
The contract is also an example of AMEC's long-term commitment to industry in Wales, where it employs over 200 personnel in operational offices and on engineering and services contracts for companies such as Corus, Transco and Dwr Cymru Welsh Water.
