Goldeneye Creates 400 UK Jobs

UK contractors Foster Wheeler were today (10 April 02) awarded a £60m contract to build the onshore gas processing facilities at St Fergus for Shell UK's Goldeneye development.

Energy and Industry Minister Brian Wilson said:
"This contract is great news for industry and will create over 400 new jobs in Scotland and more widely in the UK. Up to 300 construction jobs will boost local industry and there will be 70 new specialist posts at Foster Wheeler's Glasgow office. Permanent jobs will be created at St Fergus and will also be secured at the Fife NGL plant at Mossmorran.
Shell UK's innovative plans to prefabricate most of the process modules offsite will bring tremendous opportunities for the fabrication sector throughout the UK. We have been working with fabricators through the "Fabnet" network to enable competitive bids to be made to Foster Wheeler for equipment and materials. This will be a major boost to the oil and gas supply chain as a whole."

The onshore facilities contract follows the recent award of the £13m fabrication contract to SLP Engineering at Lowestoft for the deck and minimum process facilities for the Goldeneye platform. SLP won this work, which will employ over a hundred people at its peak, against stiff international competition.
