Kvaerner to Undertake US$10 Subsea Project

Kvaerner Oilfield Products is to provide equipment for ten subsea wells, production controls and support structures for Statoil's Kristin field, on the Norwegian shelf.

The order will be worth in excess of US$10 million, and will involve the supply of equipment from Kvaerner companies in the UK, Norway and the USA.

The project scope includes the delivery of well-heads, valve-trees and subsea production control systems for 10 wells. Four 4-slot wellhead templates are also included. The high pressure components for the valve-trees will be provided by Kvaerner Oilfield Products in Houston, the control systems will be built by Kvaerner in Aberdeen and the wells will be assembled at the company's Tranby site outside Oslo. Integrational testing of the wellhead will be conducted at the Kvaerner yard in Egersund, Norway.

The contract is expected to be formalised within the next few weeks, and production will start at the Kristin field in October 2005.

Hydrocarbons produced from the Kristin wells will be processed on a semi-submersible floating production platform. The contract for engineering, procurement and construction of the topsides for this platform was recently awarded to Aker Maritime.
