Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. Memorandum of Understanding for Petrochemical Project

Petrobras Petrobras has signed, together with its wholly-owned subsidiary Petroquisa, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) ,with Albemarle Corporation (Albemarle) for the development of a project at the Fábrica Carioca de Catalisadores S.A. (FCCSA).

FCCSA, whose control is shared by Albemarle and Petroquisa, currently produces fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts, serving all the refineries of Petrobras and part of the South American market. The purpose of this expansion project is the construction of a plant for the production of Hydroprocessing Catalysts (HPC).

This project aims to supply the increasing demand for hydroprocessing catalysts, motivated, on one hand, by new more restricted low-sulphur specifications for the gasoline and diesel oil supplied to the domestic market and, on the other hand, by the increase of the refining capacity associated with the new refineries to be built by the Company.

According to the MOU, the investment will be made by FCCSA and a technological cooperation aimed at developing new hydroprocessing catalysts will be established by Petrobras and Albemare. Additionally, the MOU also contemplates the possibility of a long term contract between FCCSA and Petrobras for the supply of catalysts to Petrobras' refineries.
