Foster Wheeler announced today that its Global Engineering and Construction Group has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCm) contract by a subsidiary of DP World for the London Gateway Import Facilities project at the former Shell Haven refinery in the Thames estuary, some 40 kilometers from Central London.

The project involves the replacement of Shell's existing jetties and oil import facilities with new facilities, as part of the London Gateway container port and logistics park development. The new deepwater port and logistics park will be the first deepwater container port to be built in the UK for more than two decades.

Foster Wheeler did not disclose the project's contract value, which was booked over multiple quarters beginning in the fourth quarter of 2008 and ending in the first quarter of 2010.

Foster Wheeler's EPCm scope of work comprises new jetty topsides, a control room, a substation, import and export piping and associated modifications.

"We are proud to be a part of such a strategically important project for the UK," said Umberto della Sala, interim chief executive officer, Foster Wheeler AG. "The award of this contract to Foster Wheeler is a demonstration of our long and successful EPC track record and our ability to build on established long-term partnerships to extend our business into related sectors and with new clients."
