TNK-BP Strengthens its Geological Exploration Team

TNK-BP TNK-BP announced its decision to expand and strengthen its geological exploration team by employing more than 60 specialists on a competitive basis. The company is inviting geologists, geophysicists, sedimentologists, petrophysicists, seismic engineers, and specialists of other geological exploration specialties to the Tyumen Petroleum Research Center (Tyumen) and the Central Office of TNK-BP in Moscow.

This decision is associated with the extension of geological exploration works by the company in the recent years which aim at replenishing its mineral resource base. Apart from that, development of innovative technologies and their application to prospecting and exploration requires more highly qualified managers and specialists.

"TNK-BP considers geological exploration as the basis for its stable and sustainable development and is going to substantially increase its activities in this sphere. We are interested in Russian and foreign specialists with extensive experience in advanced geological exploration practices and invite them on attractive terms," said First Deputy to Exploration Division Leader, TNK-BP, Sergey Ostapenko.

TNK-BP is the third largest oil company in Russia, whose shareholders on a parity basis are BP and the AAP Consortium (Alfa Group / Access Industries / Renova). TNK-BP also owns about 50% of the Russian oil and gas company Slavneft. TNK-BP accounts for approximately 16% of oil production in Russia (including the share of TNK-BP in Slavneft). The overall proven reserves of the company as of December 31, 2009 estimated according to the standards of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) without regard to the periods of validity of the company licenses amounted to 8.586 billion barrels of oil equivalent.

The company's exploration budget will amount to $400 million in 2010, which is three times more compared to 2009. The main areas of geological exploration surveys will be Yamal, Uvat, Orenburg region, as well as Timan-Pechora province and Astrakhan region. Geologists' efforts will be focused on seismic surveys and extensive exploration drilling (planned at 40% more than in 2009). TNK-BP is one of the major customers of seismic surveys and studies. In 2010, the company will cover 6,500 square kilometers with 3D seismic surveys and 6,000 linear meters with 2D seismic surveys.
