Wood Group Strengthens its Presence in Abu Dhabi

Wood Group John Wood Group is strengthening its operation in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, with a move into a new office and the consolidation of the Abu Dhabi operations of IMV Projects ("IMV") with Mustang. The Group's world-leading subsea and pipeline engineering company, J P Kenny also operates in Abu Dhabi and will collaborate on key opportunities with the new Mustang organisation in Abu Dhabi.

"We see tremendous opportunities for the world class engineering skills we can bring to bear in support of our customers' developments and investment plans in the Middle East region", said Mike Straughen, Group Director and Chief Executive of Wood Group's Engineering activities. "Wood Group currently employs 100 engineering personnel in Abu Dhabi and this strategic move will enhance our ability to leverage our extensive global capability and continue to grow our headcount in the region".

"This move further extends Mustang's ability to provide innovative and cost-effective project management, engineering and construction management services in the Middle East," said Steve Knowles, president of Mustang. "We are looking forward to serving clients in the region and building on the excellent position that IMV has established in the Middle East."

Gil Weisberger will direct Mustang's operations in Abu Dhabi. Weisberger, a thirty-year industry veteran, also oversees Mustang's India operations and holds both a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Arkansas. He is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

Mustang, supported by J P Kenny, is currently providing front-end engineering and design (FEED) services for the first phase of Masdar's Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project in the United Arab Emirates. In a bid to reduce Abu Dhabi's carbon footprint and replace the vast amount of natural gas currently re-injected into oil reservoirs Masdar, an Abu Dhabi government initiative, owned by Mubadala Development Company, aims to capture carbon dioxide emissions from Abu Dhabi's industrial and power generation plants, transport the CO2 in a pipeline network and inject it into Abu Dhabi's oil reservoirs for enhanced oil recovery.
