Jacobs Engineering Group has received a contract from Syngenta to provide engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) services for a new fungicide manufacturing plant to be built at Grangemouth, Scotland.
Syngenta is an agribusiness and a leader in crop protection, ranking third in the commercial seeds market. Syngenta employs over 21,000 people in more than 90 countries. The new plant will produce the active ingredient azoxystrobin, a naturally derived crop fungicide and one of Syngenta's top products.
The new installation will be similar to existing azoxystrobin plant at the Grangemouth facility except for debottlenecking in specific process areas. Jacobs is currently working on front-end engineering for the project. Work is being executed from its offices in Glasgow with support from its operations in Mumbai, India. Plant construction will start in 2009 and production is scheduled to begin during 2010. Jacobs and Syngenta will work as an integrated team to achieve smooth transitions between the different phases of this project.
