Jacobs Receives British Energy Asset Improvement Contract
Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. has received a contract from British Energy Generation (BE) The 5-year contract is extendable by 2 years and will help BE deliver its asset improvement program.
BE owns and operates eight of the U.K.'s nuclear and one coal-fired power stations. It is the U.K.'s largest producer of electricity, generating around one-fifth of the nation's needs.
Acting as a strategic partner to British Energy Projects Division, Jacobs will take responsibility for asset improvement works at five of these sites: Hunterston B, Torness, Hinkley Point B, and Dungeness B which utilize Advanced Gas-Cooled Reactor technology and at Sizewell B where BE operates the U.K.'s only pressurized water reactor.
Jacobs will undertake major projects and plant replacement work through BE's Asset Improvement Program with the key partnership objectives being safe project delivery, adhering to schedule and cost targets, and enhancing reliability.
In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Phil Stassi stated, "We are delighted to secure this major alliance contract with British Energy that will see our team play an important role in the safe delivery of improved asset reliability. This will help BE work towards a number of key business targets that include increasing generating output through reduced down time and unplanned outages. Our track record and expertise in delivering similar projects in the U.K. enables us to bring the focus on industry best practice that BE requires."
In support of Jacobs' announcement, British Energy Head of Projects Alan Cumming stated, "The introduction of Jacobs as a strategic partner is a key milestone in the drive to achieve the vision of 'Relentless Predictability' in the execution of projects at British Energy. Their focus on safety, both nuclear and industrial, along with strong local support to our sites were key factors in their selection. Within Projects Division our record over the past two years has been excellent, but there was a need to increase both our capacity and capability. Through the alliance with Jacobs we expect to see year on year measurable improvement in performance. Our core business is generating electricity, their core business is Project Management."
