Technip Awarded Contract for Syngas Plant in China

Technip LogoTechnip has been awarded a basic design and engineering package contract by Sinopec Yangzi Petrochemical Co. Ltd. (YPC) for a syngas plant located in Nanjing, China.

This plant will have a capacity of 25,000m3/hour of carbon monoxide (CO), 16,000m3/hour of oxo gas*, and 59,000m3/hour of hydrogen. It will be based on Technip's proprietary reformer technology and Air Products' proprietary cryogenic CO purification technology.

Technip's operations and engineering center in Zoetermeer (The Netherlands) will execute the contract. Technip's alliance partner, Air Products, will supply the cold box equipment which produces carbon monoxide and hydrogen from the syngas. YPC will perform the detail engineering, procurement and construction (EPC), with support from Technip.

The plant is expected to become operational in the first half of 2009.

It will be the second syngas project for Technip in Nanjing. The first one came on stream in 2005 for BASF-YPC Integrated Chemical Complex Nanjing, a 50:50 joint venture between YPC and BASF.
