Jacobs Awarded Suncor Energy Contract

Jacobs LogoJacobs Engineering Group have received a contract to provide front-end engineering design specifications for Stage 4 of Suncor's Firebag In-situ Oil Sands project, near Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada.

Firebag 4 (FB4) is expected to deliver 62.5 thousand barrels per calendar day of hot dry bitumen with the first steam in 2010. FB4 also is expected to generate 160 MW of cogeneration power. The project is subject to approval from regulators and Suncor's board of directors.

The SAGD technology employed by the Firebag project reaches oil-laden bitumen deposits that are too deep to be economically recoverable by surface mining techniques. The program is part of Suncor's plans to achieve production of 500 to 550,000 barrels of oil per day within the 2010-2012 timeframe.

Jacobs is a leader in design of oil sands and heavy oil production facilities. Since its initial in-situ heavy oil production project in 1975, Jacobs has performed over 30 in-situ projects for 14 clients, representing over 500,000 barrels of total oil production per day. Of these projects, those employing SAGD technology account for a third of the total number and nearly half of the total daily production capacity.

In making this announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Chip Mitchell stated, "We continue to demonstrate our ongoing commitment to Suncor on their aggressive Firebag project. Our efforts on Firebag, along with our other SAGD work, solidify our position as the premier SAGD EPC contractor in North America."
