Shaw Awarded EPC Contract for Air Emissions Control Systems
The Shaw Group Inc. has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract by PSEG Fossil LLC, a subsidiary of Public Service Enterprise Group Inc., to install mercury control and flue gas desulphurization (FGD) systems for Units 1 and 2 at PSEG's Mercer Generating Station near Trenton, New Jersey. Mercer Station's new emissions controls are expected to reduce mercury emissions by 90 percent and sulfur dioxide emissions by 94 percent. Work under the contract, valued at approximately $440 million, is scheduled for completion in early 2010.
J.M. Bernhard, Jr., Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Shaw, said, "We are pleased to have been selected by PSEG for this important project, which is in addition to a mercury control system project currently underway at Unit 3 of PSEG's Bridgeport Harbor Generating Station. Shaw continues to lead the engineering and construction industry in mercury and sulphur dioxide control systems, and we look forward to continue to provide PSEG with environmentally sound solutions."
Shaw is also currently performing maintenance and modifications services at nuclear-fueled power generating units at PSEG's Salem and Hope Creek Generating Stations.
