Wood Group Power Solutions Wins Power Plant Contract
Wood Group Power Solutions, Inc. (WGPS), part of the Gas Turbine Services Division of John Wood Group PLC ("Wood Group"), has been awarded a turnkey contract from UniSource Energy Development Company (UED), worth approximately $48 million, to engineer, construct and commission the 90MW Black Mountain Generating Station located near Kingman, Arizona, USA.
WGPS will provide engineering, design, procurement, installation, start-up and commissioning services for the entire power plant, involving the relocation of two new General Electric LM6000PC gas turbine generator packages. The company will also utilize local subcontractors for the civil, mechanical and electrical work, and Wood Group company, TransCanada Turbines, for upgrade and testing services on the gas turbines prior to installation.
Construction of the facility will commence in September 2007, with commercial operation expected by May 2008 to meet UniSource Energy's need for available peaking power by summer 2008.
David Whisenhunt, President of WGPS, said: "Wood Group Power Solutions' proven track record in providing turnkey services utilizing LM6000 units played a significant role in the award of this contract. More importantly, we believe we are the only non-OEM capable of providing UniSource Energy with the performance guarantee and warranty for the gas turbines as part of the turnkey installation."
UniSource Energy Vice President, Thomas McKenna, said: "By utilizing available generating equipment under a full guarantee and warranty, the Wood Group Power Solutions contract offers the lowest-cost alternative for supplying reliable power to UES customers in Mohave County".
WGPS recently announced the award of three turnkey contracts from American Electric Power, worth approximately $195 million, to engineer, construct and commission three power plant facilities during 2007.
