Centrica Acquires Norwegian Exploration Licences

Centrica plc has welcomed the announcement by the Norwegian Petroleum Ministry which has awarded the company participation in four licences as part of its bid in the 2006 APA exploration licence round. The licences are located in the Norwegian Sea and Northern North Sea.

British Gas parent company Centrica will have an operated interest in three licences, with non-operatorship in one block. The award follows Centrica opening a Norwegian office in Stavanger last year to help its international search for new gas supplies.

Jake Ulrich, Managing Director of Centrica Energy, said: "Participation in the Norwegian sector broadens our approach to securing future supplies for our British Gas customers.

"We are pleased with this award and now look forward to progressing future opportunities in Norway."

Licences awarded to Centrica:

•   Centrica 40% (operator) - Block 8/7, Northern North Sea
•   Centrica 40% (operator) - Block 6506/12, Norwegian Sea
•   Centrica 40% (operator) - Block 6506/9, Norwegian Sea
•   Centrica 30% - Block 35/8, North Sea
