Foster Wheeler Wins Contract for Expansion of Gas Processing Facility In Tanzania
Foster Wheeler Ltd. has announced that its subsidiary Foster Wheeler South Africa
(PTY) Limited, part of its Global Engineering and Construction Group, has been awarded an engineering and project management consultancy contract by Globeleq for the expansion of the Songo Songo Island gas processing facility in Tanzania. Globeleq, an operating power company solely focused on the emerging markets of Africa, the Americas, and Asia is the owner and operator of the Songas gas-to-electricity project.
"This award highlights our technical expertise and our project execution experience in the upstream oil and gas sector and in Africa," said Themba Mabuza, managing director of Foster Wheeler South Africa (Pty) Limited. "Foster Wheeler is currently executing oil and gas projects in Nigeria, Mozambique, South Africa and the Maghreb, and we are now delighted to have secured our first win in Tanzania. We look forward to delivering high quality services which meet or exceed our client's objectives."
Paul Kunert, Globeleq's vice president for East Africa, said, "Our expanded investment here is critical to helping Tanzania develop its natural resources for the benefit of the Tanzanian people and economy."
"The commitment and professionalism demonstrated by Foster Wheeler in structuring a deal quickly to progress the project impressed us greatly, and was a contributing factor to the selection of Foster Wheeler as our engineering contractor for the expansion project," added Shaun Moore, Globeleq's project manager.
The Songo Songo Island gas processing facility is part of the Songas integrated gas-to-electricity facility. The gas processing facility processes natural gas from the Songo Songo Island gas fields, which is then transported, via a 225 km/140 mile subsea and onshore gas pipeline, to the Ubungo power station in Dar es Salaam and to other industrial users. The expansion will double the capacity of the gas processing facility to 140 million standard cubic feet per day.
