Mott MacDonald to Assist Czech Republic's Ministry of Environment with EU Cohesion Funding
Mott MacDonald has been appointed by the Czech Republic's Ministry of Environment to help the Czech Republic make best use of an estimated 5.1 billion euros in funding available through the European Union's Cohesion Fund which aims to assist eligible Member States to catch up with Europe's wealthier regions by contributing to the improvement of transport, energy and environmental infrastructure.
Mott MacDonald's consultancy team based in Prague will work alongside KPMG to help the Ministry of Environment and State Environment Fund, which have developed an operational programme, to develop a user-friendly system for co-ordinating the Cohesion Funds. This will involve introducing new methodologies, guidelines and manuals for applicants as well as providing guidance and systems designed to help the Ministry in ensuring that Cohesion Funds are awarded to the most appropriate environmental improvement projects. The consultants will be on-hand to offer advisory services for a period of one-year.
The Ministry's new systems will enable them to prioritise support for water supply and wastewater infrastructure schemes, flood prevention projects, air quality improvement and reduction of carbon emissions, sustainable energy projects including renewable energy infrastructure, energy efficiency and district heating projects.
Pavel Valek, representing Mott MacDonald's team of consultants said, "We are delighted to be assisting the Ministry of Environment on this prestigious project. We are confident that our expertise as a global management, engineering and development consultant and the in-depth knowledge of best practice in environmental sustainability that this brings, will enable us to make a valuable contribution to the Czech Republic's environmental programme."
