Mott MacDonald Appointed for Saadiyat Island Project

MottMacDonald LogoMott MacDonald has been appointed by Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (ADWEA) to oversee the development of Saadiyat Island's entire power and water distribution systems from conceptual design to construction supervision.

The US$27 billion redevelopment of 27km squared Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi is being commissioned by the Tourism Development & Investment Company. The plan is to transform the Island into a bustling city by 2009. The new power and water distribution systems will support plans to build up-market real estate, hospitality and leisure facilities, a multi-lane expressway and a twin track light railway network which will provide a direct link to the capital city of Abu Dhabi.

Mott MacDonald has already completed the preliminary designs for a power distribution system consisting of a 400/132/22kV grid station, five 132/22kV primary substations with 400kV OHL circuits and 22kV load centres to facilitate the anticipated 1400 MVA plus demand for power.

The Island's water distribution system will be constructed in two phases and will comprise a total of 60km of pipelines ranging in size from DN150 to DN1600mm as well as the implementation of the associated urban water distribution network.

Paul Looker, leading the Mott MacDonald project team said, "We are delighted to work for ADWEA again and on this prestigious project. We are involved in power and water projects in the Middle East and around the world and welcome exciting opportunities to demonstrate our professional expertise in transmission and distribution consultancy."
