Mott MacDonald Assists Expansion of Mitsui's Thai Water Business
Mott MacDonald's business in Thailand, Thai DCI, is working on a feasibility study for Thai Tap Water Supply Company Limited (TTW) looking into the expansion of its water supply business to help meet increasing water demand in the west Bangkok provinces of Nakhon Pathom and Samut Sakhon. This study follows on from a review of TTW undertaken by Mott MacDonald on behalf of Mitsui & Co prior to its purchase of TTW shares.
TTW has a 30 year Build Own and Operate agreement with the Provincial Waterworks Authority of Thailand, to supply drinking water to consumers in west Bangkok. TTW owns and operates the largest privately owned water treatment plant in Thailand, which has a capacity of 320,000m3/d, together with local water distribution networks. The feasibility study will investigate the current and future water demands in the service area and examine the expansion of the water treatment and distribution facilities to match future growth.
As independent technical and environmental advisor to Mitsui & Co, Mott MacDonald's team of public private finance experts was involved in the review of the TTW business which helped inform Mitsui's decision to purchase 35% of TTW's issued shares on 28 February 2006. The share purchase agreement, with a value of THB 3.6 billion (£51.5 million), gained Mitsui entry to the private water supply business in Thailand.
