Jacobs Receives EPCM Contract from BA Energy

Jacobs LogoA Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. subsidiary company has received a contract for engineering, procurement, and construction management of the first phase of BA Energy's Heartland Upgrader Project to be located in Strathcona County, near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

This award was supported by BA Energy board AFE approval of Can$900 million for the project's first phase.

Jacobs recently completed, in conjunction with engineering partner Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), the front-end engineering of facilities, including the AFE estimate. L&T will perform the engineering work associated with the pyrolysis unit and associated facilities.

Developed in three phases, this grassroots facility will process heavy bitumen using new proprietary technology designed to reduce capital and operating costs relative to conventional upgraders. The first phase is scheduled for start-up in early 2008 and will process 77,500 barrels per day of bitumen blend. Once fully expanded, total plant capacity will be approximately 260,000 barrels per day of blended bitumen.

In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Greg Landry stated, "Over the past two years, we have developed a strong relationship and close knit team with BA Energy and our engineering partner Larsen & Toubro Limited. We are pleased to develop and carry through to start-up this unprecedented upgrader. By using our full suite of EPC modular services in Canada, we add value throughout project execution.&
