JGC Awarded EPC Contract by PETRORabigh

JGC logoJGC Corporation has been awarded a contract by Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Company (PETRORabigh), as the joint venture company in Saudi Arabia between Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) and Sumitomo Chemical Company Ltd. (Sumitomo Chemical) of Japan.

The contract is for the engineering, procurement and construction services of a High Olefin Fluid Catalytic Cracker (HOFCC: 900,000 tons per year of polymer grade propylene) and an Ethane Cracker (1.3 million tons per year of polymer grade ethylene), to be constructed at Rabigh (140 km north of Jeddah) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The award to JGC of the EPC lump-sum turnkey contract followed the FEED (Front-End Engineering and Design) services awarded in November 2004. The target date for the completion of this complex is planned for the second half of 2008.

JGC, as Managing Partner in a consortium including Marubeni Corporation, Itochu Corporation, both of Japan, and ACWA Power Projects of Saudi Arabia, was awarded in August 2005 the contract for the development of a fuel oil-fired cogeneration and desalination plant for the Rabigh Refinery and Petrochemical Complex on a build, own, operate and transfer basis, located next to the newly awarded plant.
