UK Governement's Projections for Energy and Carbon Emissions

DEFRA logoDTI logoA consultation has been published which will set out the Government's projections for energy and carbon emissions for the UK. They will form the baseline for the new Climate Change Programme and will also be used as part of the Government's ongoing Energy Review. The final projections will be used to inform allocations for the next phase of the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (2008 -2012).

The consultation will last for eight weeks and will give stakeholders the opportunity to comment on technical issues relating to the projections, for example assumptions about fossil fuel prices, output growth and abatement potential. The Government will be holding stakeholder events to present the analysis and to discuss sector specific issues. A separate consultation will take place in the spring on the UK's Phase II National Allocation Plan.

The projections give an indication of the UK's potential future energy mix and will also be used as part of the Government's ongoing Energy Review.
