Mott MacDonald Wins Contract for New Power Station in Barbados

MottMacDonald LogoMott MacDonald has been awarded a contract by The Barbados Light & Power Company Limited to design and manage a new 60MW power station development which will meet the increasing demand for electricity in Barbados and to replace equipment that has reached the end of its economic life.

The new US$100 million plant, to be located on a greenfield site on the north side of Barbados, will be based on either slow-speed reciprocating engine or combined cycle gas turbine technology. It is being designed in light of the Barbados Government's outline plans to introduce natural gas fuel via a new submarine pipeline or Barge from Trinidad and Tobago. The main fuel to be used will be either natural gas or heavy fuel oil.

Mott MacDonald has been commissioned to help the client to prepare design briefs, specifications and tender documents, manage the procurement process, procure the construction contract, review contractor's designs and supervise construction on site.

Donal McRandal, Mott MacDonald's lead engineer for the project said, "We are delighted to have won this prestigious work for Barbados Light & Power Company and will enjoy the opportunity to demonstrate our professional excellence in this field."

Construction is expected to begin in late 2006 with completion scheduled for October 2008.
