KBR Awarded Rong Doi Contract in Vietnam
The Production Services product service line of KBR Energy and Chemicals has been awarded a contract by Korea National Oil Company (KNOC) to provide operations and maintenance services for the Rong Doi and Rong Doi Tay gas development project in Vietnam. Under the contract, which has a three-year duration with the option of a 20-year extension, KBR will provide initial setup support through the pre-production phase, followed by management and execution of all operations, maintenance and support activities for the Rong Doi Gas Platform.
"We are delighted with this award, which marks the first time KBR's Production Services sector has worked with KNOC and in Vietnam," said Robert Keiller, managing director, KBR Production Services. "Our extensive experience in the operations and maintenance of offshore production facilities around the globe, coupled with our proven track record in safety and environmental management, enabled us to win this work. We look forward to adding value to KNOC's operations in Vietnam and developing a long-term working relationship with them."
Located approximately 320 kilometers off the coast of Vietnam, the Rong Doi Field development will consist of a wellhead platform bridge connected to a production utilities quarters compression platform, as well as gas and condensate pipelines. Processing will consist of gas dehydration and compression, and condensate stabilization. A floating storage offloading unit will be installed to receive stabilized condensate stripped from the gas. The processed gas will be compressed and piped 60 kilometers to tie-in to the Nam Con Son pipeline.
Dr Seong Hoon Kim, general director of KNOC's Vietnam office said, "This gas development is KNOC's first offshore production facility outside of Korea and we are confident KNOC and KBR will work as an effective integrated team, to align our project goals and corporate culture and ensure safe and reliable operations on this new project."
The offshore facilities are scheduled for installation in mid-2006 and commissioning is expected in the third quarter of 2006.
KBR will utilise significant local resources in executing the project. Through an alliance with PTSC Production Services, KBR will maximize the involvement of local Vietnamese personnel and subcontractors, providing opportunities for the development of the local workforce.
