Jet Fuel Storage Facility and Pipeline Contract for Mott MacDonald
Mott MacDonald has been appointed engineer by Sharjah Pipeline Company (PIPECO) for a new jet fuel storage facility to be built in the Hamriyah Free Zone (HFZ) in the United Arab Emirates and a 41km pipeline linking the new development directly to Sharjah International Airport. The US$32 million project will provide the necessary infrastructure for supporting the Emirate of Sharjah's growing aviation industry.
PIPECO, a joint venture between the Government of Sharjah and BP Middle East, will build the 45 000m2 facility which will comprise four 50 000 metric ton storage tanks and import facilities for discharging fuel from supply vessels at Hamriyah Port. The Anabeeb (Arabic word for pipeline) facility has been designed with the highest priority given to health, safety and environmental considerations. The project will utilise the latest technology and monitoring equipment to ensure a safe and reliable service to the airport and will eliminate some 50 round trips by fuel tankers on Sharjah's roads every day.
Mott MacDonald has completed the basic and detailed engineering and with the appointment of MIS, a Sharjah based contractor, is commencing the construction management phase.
Site work will commence in November this year with completion and commissioning expected in October 2006.
