Iran Pipeline Suffers Huge Fire
Firefighters are continuing efforts to extinguish a huge fire at the Abadan-Mahshahr pipeline in Iran's oil-rich southwestern province of Khuzestan, the Oil Ministry's information network reported on Saturday.
The fire, which broke out late Friday local time at the 16-inch pipeline, was caused by accumulated gas in the air. One person was killed and two others were severely injured.
Both Abadan and Mahshahr are crucial energy port cities in Khuzestan province. Abadan is the site of the country's biggest refinery.
An official of the province's pipeline company said the fire cannot be brought under control until the remaining crude oil in the line has burned. Normal operation has been disrupted at Abadan refinery and at petrochemical facilities in the area.
