Belarus and Russia Discuss Construction of Second Pipeline
The presidents of Belarus and Russia discussed the construction of the second line of the Yamal-Europe natural gas pipeline at a recent meeting, Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko said Tuesday, according to a report by Russia's Itar-Tass news agency.
"Five gas pumping stations are under construction in Belarus, and three of them may be commissioned by this September if Gazprom makes payments on time," the president said at a news conference, according to the report.
"Gas is the only product Belarus buys from Russia at prices smaller than world ones. Belarus and Gazprom have agreed on buying gas at $46.68 per 1,000 cubic meters this and next years," Lukashenko said, according to the report.
Belarus is ready to buy gas at world prices if Russia pays for services, he said, according to the report. Belarus will have to start trading at world prices in 2006-2010, especially if Russia enters in the World Trade Organisation by that time, he said, according to Itar-Tass.
