AMEC's Black & McDonald JV Signs Windpower Contract

AMEC logoAMEC and its 50/50 joint venture partner, Black & McDonald have signed a contract with Erie Shores Wind Farm Limited Partnership, a subsidiary of Clean Power Income Fund, for the design, procurement and installation of the balance of the plant works associated with the 99 MW Erie Shores Wind Farm. Clean Power's project, which will be one of Ontario's largest windpower facilities, was developed by AIM PowerGen Corporation (AIM).

"We are delighted to be involved with Clean Power and AIM on the Erie Shores Wind Farm, which will play a vital role in the development of Ontario as a leading centre for renewable energy," said Doug Annable, President of AMEC's Energy & Mining division. "AIM and Clean Power are key clients for AMEC, and this win further demonstrates their confidence in our ability to deliver our services across Canada."

The project, which is located near Port Burwell along the north shore of Lake Erie, encompasses the installation of 66 - 1.5 MW wind turbines, associated roads, foundations, 34.5 kV collector lines, and a 115 kV transmission line and substation. The capital value of the project is Cdn $186 million.

Design work has already commenced and project completion is scheduled for April 2006. When completed, the 99 MW facility is expected to produce 270,000 megawatt hours of electricity annually, sufficient energy to service an average of 32,000 homes.

This is the second win for the AMEC-Black & McDonald Joint Venture of the first five wind farm projects announced by the Ontario Ministry of Energy last November under its first round of Renewable Energy Supply contracts. The Joint Venture also signed a contract for the design, supply and installation of the electrical collection, transmission system, switching and control equipment for the Kingsbridge Wind Power Project.
