Atkins Wins Sri Lankan Stormwater Programme
Atkins has won the Lunawa Environment Improvement & Community Development Project in
Sri Lanka with Japanese company NJS Consultants.
The project is funded by JBIC, the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and extends the Greater Colombo Stormwater Improvement Programme to the Lunawa area to the south of Colombo.
This is the final phase of a 15-year programme of works, stemming back to the production of a Master Plan for stormwater drainage for Greater Colombo in the mid 1980's.
The project will involve the preparation of detailed designs, contract documents and undertaking construction supervision covering dredging of the Lunawa lake, constructing drains, canals, tertiary drainage systems, resettlement sites and procuring O&M equipment. The value to Atkins Water is in the region of £320K.
Atkins Water's international director, Roger North, who was responsible for producing the original masterplan, says, "This contract continues our long association with the flood relief of Greater Colombo. Our association with NJS was a key factor in winning this project and we are particularly pleased to continue our work with Client and JBIC."
