PetroChina to Expand West-East Pipeline Flow
PetroChina plans to spend about CNY7.7 billion to expand the capacity of the existing West-East gas pipeline. The work is expected to be completed by the end of this year, and will allow the 4,200-kilometer pipeline to supply 12 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually.
The expansion work is to help ease acute energy shortages in the northern Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.
Part of the money will be used in part to link the trunk pipeline with a Shaanxi-Beijing pipeline that is to supply natural gas from the northwestern province to the capital from next month. It will also be used to build a gas storage tank in Jiangsu province in eastern China and six gas pumping stations at the western end of the pipeline.
