Foster Wheeler Awarded Project for Desalination Unit in Saudi Arabia
Foster Wheeler Italiana S.p.A. has been awarded a contract by SETE Technical Services S.A., a consultancy and engineering subsidiary of the Latsis Group, a major Greek conglomerate, to provide process design services in conjunction with the installation of a new seawater desalination unit at the Khafji Joint Operations (KJO) Plant, at Al-Khafji, Saudi Arabia. KJO is a joint venture between Kuwait Gulf Oil Company and Aramco Gulf Operations Company.
The new plant, which has a capacity of 1.5 million U.S. gallons per day (USGPD), will be built adjacent to five existing seawater desalination units (three with a total design capacity of 1.7 million USGPD, one with a capacity of 1 million USGPD and one with a capacity of 1.25 million USGPD) and related facilities.
"We are delighted to receive this award, which is an additional step in our already proven collaboration with SETE Technical Services in Saudi Arabia," said Andrea Fava, director of the Environmental Division of Foster Wheeler Italiana.
"This will be one more project to add to the chain of projects that SETE has successfully executed with Foster Wheeler in the last two decades. We feel that both companies have developed a partnership spirit that helps in effectively responding to clients' requirements in particular, and to the market demands in general," said George Antonopoulos, chief operations officer, SETE Technical Services.
The project is scheduled to be completed by the second quarter of 2007.
