Jacobs Receives BP Contract For New Sulfur Recovery Unit
A Jacobs Engineering Group subsidiary company has received a contract for detailed engineering, procurement, and construction management of a new Claus 5 sulfur recovery unit for BP's refinery in Gelsenkirchen, Werk Horst, Germany.
The new unit is an integrated Claus/Scot unit that is the industry's first commercial application of the low-temperature Scot process. The 140-tons-per-day facility replaces two outmoded units, assuring reliable capacity that meets stringent national regulations regarding sulfur emissions.
In making the announcement, Jacobs Group Vice President Andy Kremer stated, "We worked closely with BP during the basic engineering phase of this project to develop an innovative solution to their sulfur recovery challenge. We are very pleased that BP has asked us to continue into the implementation phase."
