Aker Kvaerner Wins Engineering Contract from DSM

Aker Kvaerner logoDSM Engineering Plastics BV of the Netherlands has awarded a contract to Aker Kvaerner for the first phase of engineering for the expansion of its DAB (diaminobutane) production facility in Geleen, Netherlands. The contract, estimated to be worth about Eur 450,000, will be executed by Aker Kvaerner's AK Engineering Services office in Maastricht.

Jan van de Graaf, Aker Kvaerner's Regional Operations Director of Rotterdam and Maastricht, said, "We are delighted to have secured this contract from DSM, one of the major players in the global chemicals market. The project is managed through the newly established DSM Manufacturing Centre, and it is a very positive sign that we have been able to secure this work so quickly."

Mark Leggett, President AK Engineering Services, said, "We are pleased to continue our long-standing relationship with DSM and build on the successes of various projects we have undertaken with them during the last decades."

The project will increase the current DAB production capacity by 65%. On completion, the expansion project will provide feedstock for an existing and a new facility to manufacture Stanyl®, a high performance engineering plastic.

The first phase of basic engineering, which includes reliability studies, is scheduled for completion in the third quarter of 2005.
